CLASS OF 2002 GRADUATE COMMENTS
Through discussions with students at other schools I feel the curriculum covered at the University of Michigan is superior in scope most other schools. Additionally I have gained great experience in working in groups of highly talented people. Finally, the friendships I have gained here will last a lifetime. -- Operations
Michigan puts great emphasis on team work, has outstanding faculty, and very enthusiastic students. The School offers great opportunities in various fields, and benefits from its close association with the University of Michigan. Ann Arbor is not New York, but it certainly offers a great deal of cultural activities, in addition to being a safe and clean place to live in for two years. -- Consulting
To a Michigan resident, having the UMBS nearby makes B-school a complete no-brainer. I was able to attend a world-class program with minimum, though substantial, impact on my family and outside interests. -- Consulting
Michigan is a "can't go wrong" school. I found a lot of cross-discipline strength. The quality of the students and faculty exceeded my expectations. The environment was challenging, yet collaborative. People had high expectations and aspirations, yet were firmly grounded and humble. It is a good combination to have in a business school, and Michigan, in my view, has it. -- Finance
It's amazing how an MBA opens new opportunities in top companies of the world across various disciplines. This is especially true for international students like me. Another benefit of an MBA program is a network that every student establishes before he or she leaves the school. -- Investment Banking
I found the people at Michigan by and large shared the same outlook as myself when it came to balancing their academic and personal interests. A typical Michigan student has diverse interests, including activities outside of the academic realm. In my opinion, Michigan has the best of both worlds, a first class academic program and down to earth, genuine people. -- Marketing
The University of Michigan Business School attempts to do two things and does these well: provide a PRACTICAL curriculum that results in skilled and proactive leaders AND provide an experience that results in cutting edge thinkers that see well beyond the traditional "bottom line". This is a rare combination and difficult to achieve, yet UMBS does it beautifully. -- Marketing
The University of Michigan Business School is the ideal program for the development not only of sound business tools, but also of practical application experience through corporate projects. Team dynamics emphasized throughout the program contribute to long term individual effectiveness, irrespective of career direction. -- Marketing
My experience was fantastic. I came from a small private firm before B-school and I am now headed to the largest company in the world. My return on investment is out of sight, and I met some of the most intelligent people in the world, many of whom will be my friends for life. -- General Management
Michigan provides a broad, general management background, that prepares you for any type of management career. Whether you're interested in Marketing, Corporate Finance, Strategy, Consulting, Investment Banking, Operations, Financial Services, etc., career opportunities are available to you at Michigan. Michigan isn't just a Finance or Marketing school, it's all of the above. -- Marketing
I found the Michigan program to be a great mix of analytical rigor, applied learning, and a healthy team development atmosphere. The school also demonstrates an attractive sense of modestly in executing its charge. I have made great friends from all around the world. -- Finance
Michigan's program is extremely well-rounded with strong emphasis on both finance/accounting and marketing/strategy. The environment was incredible. The students bring diverse backgrounds to the table without the cutthroat attitude prevalent at other business schools. Ann Arbor has been an ideal place to think and learn and has been a great break from a hectic city life. From a job standpoint, I acquired the tools necessary to secure the job that met my career goals. -- Marketing
[The school provides an] excellent, broad based education. We learn not only the academics and theory behind the subject matter, but also, how to convey our ideas through team-based projects and presentations that will be invaluable after school. The student body at Michigan is one of the most diverse, talented, and outgoing in the country. There is a feeling of class unity and school pride that extends beyond the B-school and into all University-wide organizations. -- Investment Banking
Even though the job market is less than ideal, the University of Michigan Business School would be my recommendation for anyone attending business school full-time or part-time. The weather is not great for those not used to mid-western weather, but the atmosphere, people, diversity, education, breadth of extracurricular activities, and many other things far exceeded my expectations. -- Marketing
Michigan invites you to push yourself and others into becoming holistic managers. At first I thought the curriculum was light compared to undergrad, but I soon concluded that most of the learning was within study groups and teams. Michigan forces you to see the art of the manager along with the science. -- Finance
The University of Michigan MBA program is comprehensive, offering what I see as an unmatched flexibility in terms of allowing students to build their own program according to personal interests. Moreover, I'm very happy with the overall quality of teaching and I strongly believe UMBS has the most appropriate balance between theory and hands-on experience. -- Finance
It is not only the hard skills you learn in the classroom, but the atmosphere which helps develop a self-awareness and world-awareness, maturity, and confidence which has already proven invaluable in my ability to drive positive and timely personal and organizational change. -- Operations
Michigan has a strong General Management program. It also allows you the flexibility to change your focus, which many do within the course of two years. Moreover, it has a large alumni base good for networking past the companies that come to campus. All of these points have been very important in a down economy. -- Anonymous
