CLASS OF 2002 GRADUATE COMMENTS

It was an excellent exposure to the business community. The networking events with the alumni and the breadth of companies that came for recruiting, even in tough economic times, were excellent. I was able to experiment with a lot of opportunities while studying. We had projects with several start-ups as part of the management labs, I worked for McKinsey and Co. over the summer prior to deciding on Investment Banking as a career. The school made it all possible. I did not have to look elsewhere for advice. -- Investment Banking

The MBA experience is unique, especially for international students, and the Chicago GSB program was the best combination of academic excellence, community integration, and professional leverage I could expect to find. -- Investment Banking

The education level was outstanding and the network opportunities were there. I am really a different person with a better understanding of the business world and a good direction of where I want to be. Chicago GSB was able to combine the study and the social parts. -- Marketing

I believe that Chicago's combination of exceptional teachers, team-oriented assignments, flexible curriculum, and analytical rigor would provide my colleagues the best possible preparation for careers in marketing, banking, consulting, and general management. -- Marketing

Chicago GSB is a great place to gain a broad management education. It is not just a finance school. Nevertheless, having a finance concentration as one enters any other business areas can greatly increase one's marketability. -- Healthcare Administrator

The program at the GSB provides a solid grounding in fundamentals as well as the ability to experiment with courses that are challenging and enjoyable. My overall experience in terms of the people I have met and the knowledge I have gained, has prepared me for a career in finance anywhere. -- Investment Banking

University of Chicago GSB provides stellar professors and first-class career support. It also presents a hugely diverse student group. On top of all that, it is a school for mature and independent people who do not just follow the trend. Without the handholding and all-too-nice smiles, it is a school that represents the harsh reality outside as well. -- Marketing

Before coming to the GSB, I had some serious misconceptions of what a Chicago education was like. I have had an incredible two years here, have met wonderfully talented, intellegent, friendly people, and would recommend this experience to anyone who wants to work hard and enjoy a great program in a great city. -- Marketing

There is a lot of freedom of choice. The program is meant for mature people who either know, or soon figure out, what they want to do. You can make your own curriculum and this flexibility lets you go in the direction you want to go and take the right mix of classes that you want to take. -- Entrepreneurship

Chicago offers the incredible mix of an amazing student body and the best faculty in the world. They have an aggressive career office, which did wonders in a tough year for all top MBA schools, utilizing the strong alum base. I feel fortunate to have graduated from this school. -- Investment Banking

The University of Chicago's approach to teaching Business Administration is timeless and substantive. After each class I have gained an additional set of tools with which I can transform seemingly complex problems into a set of decisions that ultimately quantify the risks and rewards likely to result from a set of actions. -- Marketing

The University of Chicago GSB offers its students a very unique opportunity to chart their own course. The flexible curriculum is so valuable at helping a student shape their education in the way they want. If I am spending $100,000 for a degree, I certainly would like the chance to influence what I learn and the GSB gives you that chance. Also, my classmates are unbelievably talented and amazing resources. -- Operations

The flexibility of the curriculum gives you the highest control over your academic career, also there aren't too many schools where you can take classes with Nobel prize winners. -- Finance

I think the technical skills that are learned at the University of Chicago are unsurpassed. Based on my internship, the technical/quantitative skills are a very big differentiator. Many of the soft skills are extremely important, but learning how to think critically and analytically is invaluable. The GSB did a fantastic job. I spoke to a friend at HBS that was having a difficult time getting the exposure to technical skills he was looking for because he recognized the importance of them. -- Real Estate Development

Chicago is no cookie-cutter program. The Chicago MBA is a two-year training program on how to think, how to challenge ideas and generate your own, and how to apply innovative tools to solving real world problems. The model at Chicago is to train young managers to be thought leaders, to go against the grain when necessary, and to essentially have a unique and comprehensive perspective. It's an invaluable educational experience that will pay dividends far into the future. -- Finance

Chicago offers a unique opportunity to delve into the most complex financial issues facing capital markets participants. Yet, students still have the curriculum flexibility necessary to develop skills related to completely different topics. -- Finance

I cannot emphasize enough, how great my experience at the University of Chicago, GSB has been for me. I came from a science background with little business knowledge. I now feel very comfortable in discussing issues dealing in finance, tax strategies, marketing strategies, even human resources, with any person within any organization. The value I received at the University of Chicago, GSB far outweighed the tuition cost and opportunity cost of forgoing a salary. -- Business Development
