CLASS OF 2002 GRADUATE COMMENTS

Excellent program for international students. Strong emphasis on international aspect of business, especially finance. Excellent faculty, facilities, and staff. The city of Washington, being the administrative center and center of international politics and international organizations, offers great networking opportunities. The school takes full advantage of this by organizing visits, networking events, bringing speakers, and working with recruiting services. -- Finance

I would urge friends and colleagues to enroll in the Kogod School of Business for the following reasons: 1) professors bring recent real-world experiences to the program; 2) the program has a strong international business program due to the strong international influence from both professors and students; 3) each course is taught from a global prospective; and 4) outstanding faculty and staff. -- Information Technology

[Do you feel you could have learned as much from a distance-learning MBA program?] I would not have gained the same experience from a distance-learning MBA program. The ability to work in teams of 3-5 people as the only American student was an irreplaceable experience. The value of teamwork is important, especially in a business program. Each of my colleagues brought a unique added value to the team. It was a true learning experience. -- Information Technology

I think their recruiting needs quite a bit of work...a graduating MBA should have a recruiting office working for them, helping them find a job. Ours was quite absent 90% of the time, pulling only placement ads from local papers. -- Finance

I tried some of our Global Collaborative Technology classes using IBM Sametime and the experience was fun the first time but it became difficult to concentrate effectively and interact as you can in class. -- Information Technology

As a student, you can see that this program is definitely on the rise. During my short time at Kogod I found the quality of teaching (specifically in quantitative subjects) to be outstanding. You can tell that the professors truly care about your experience in their class. The large number of international students in the program provided a real world learning experience through class discussions and group projects that I never imagined. I believe that Kogod will soon rival Thunderbird as the top MBA International Business program. -- Marketing

In general my school provided me with the opportunity to select from a pool of excellent professors, students, and class material to build my own MBA experience. It also provided numerous out of class activities, organizations, and leadership opportunities. Therefore, I believe that a student who was willing to get an overwhelming experience had the opportunity to get it. It was up to the student's individual judgment to grasp these opportunities and utilize one of the top technology MBAs. I do believe that this program deserves a significantly higher ranking that its current ranking in BusinessWeek. Especially when I compare the curriculum and quality of classes to other universities in the area, I can clearly see the advantage of the American University both in quality and in flexibility of the courses offered. -- Consulting

There aren't a lot of AACSB accredited MBA programs for part-time students in the DC Metro Area. American offered a solid academic program that was comparable to my fellow colleagues at more prestigious business programs, such as Georgetown. For a busy full-time employed student, this was a great program. -- Consulting

Everything I set out to learn and experience by going back for an MBA was provided to me by attending the Kogod School of Business. The faculty, facilities, and overall enthusiasm in which the staff at Kogod presents itself, went far beyond my expectations. I am very proud of the degree I earned at Kogod. -- Venture Capital/Private Equity

What really stands out about my MBA experience is the way every professor related course material to real world examples and used the stated examples in conjunction with guest lecturers to help students understand the big picture. As I stated earlier, an MBA involves much more than simply academic endeavors. The MBA experience involves meeting and learning both cultural and business practices from the diverse student body. The Kogod School of Business uses its diversity to foster this international awareness both inside and outside the classroom. I truly loved my MBA experience. -- Finance
