TECHNOLOGY
Wireless network in main buildings: Yes
School's investment in technology over the past three years: $2,000,000
Technology changes made over the past three years:
In Aug, 2000 the school introduced a wireless laptop program - one of the first in the country. All students are required to participate in this program and the entire school, including classrooms, study areas, faculty offices, library, outdoor courtyard (Starbucks across the street) is covered by our wireless network. The school has implemented a sophisticated intranet that provides access to web based course material, threaded discussion boards, virtual chat and online library databases. The intranet also provides student clubs and admin. offices the capability to share information, announcements, email distribution lists and threaded discussion boards with the Owen community. The intranet also provides Owen alumni with access to selected faculty courses, "communities of interest" and closer ties with current students. Owen recently upgraded its video conferencing capabilities to enable corporate executives to make "virtual" visits to classrooms. The school is an early adopter of new technologies and has adopted a strategy of standardizing on the same hardware and operating systems enabling us to stay current with the lastest business applications.
