2003 GRADUATE COMMENTS

UT EMBA program is the first and only truly ONE-year program I've heard about. It was an unbelievably difficult year, but I was always able to look ahead and see the completion date.--Operations

The Leadership Development component of the UT EMBA program is exactly what I needed at this point in my career.--Accounting

A truly transformational educational experience. Enjoyed social as well as academic aspects of program. Liked compressed structure. Excellent faculty.--Marketing

Outstanding Leadership Development program in addition to a good team-based EMBA curriculum. Peer-to-peer learning facilitated through residency periods and case studies. Trip to Asia outstanding experience. I needed to improve my knowledge of financial and accounting fundamentals, and the professors that taught in these areas were exceptional. Best part of the program is that my company work, or areas of my company that I didn't understand, were integrated into numerous case studies.--Manufacturing

The University of Tennessee program allowed me to complete my MBA within one year while working and maintaining my same level of responsibility at work. The program was designed for business people. The subject matters were relevant to my present areas of responsibility. I could take the information and use it in my day-to-day activities on the job.--Operations

Our core faculty derived most of their personal income not from academia, but rather from consulting with outside business entities both large and small. We all knew we were being taught by cutting-edge practitioners who had the respect of diverse industries.--Operations

All instructors made every effort to be available to us for questions and discussions at all hours of the day -- even weekends -- they were fantastic in that regard. The stronger of the faculty members are truly exceptional educators -- UT has some very talented faculty who do a tremendous job of teaching as well as facilitating in-class discussions and making classroom time very valuable and exciting. Their best instructors are in the fields of Strategy, Finance, Accounting, Supply Chain, Communication, and Leadership (in no particular order). Some of the new instructors really struggled to match their idea of what the curriculum should be to the expectations of an executive-level group.--Marketing

[Faculty strengths/weaknesses?] Strengths -- Cutting-edge teaching methods, right level of detail, concluded sessions well with synthesis project. Weaknesses -- Light on IT issues.--Finance

[Instructors?] Strengths -- Approachable, personable, industry experience, global experience, great speakers, great group projects -- international trip experience. Weaknesses -- Many hours of reading, could possibly cut reading assignments.--Strategy

[Faculty strengths/weaknesses?] Strengths -- They were out doing the work in the corporate world and it showed in the way they interacted with the students and presented the materials. They taught from experience and it made a big difference. They helped with real problems instead of giving academic answers that were not practical to implement. They spent time with us outside the classroom which allowed one-on-one mentoring to take place. We learned from each other.--Management Consulting

The classroom experience could have been improved by bringing in more adjuncts, specifically industry experts that had experience leading or implementing cutting-edge solutions.--Strategy

I very much enjoyed the day-to-day experience. Having all the students located together during the residency periods provided enhanced opportunities to further explore ideas and concepts discussed during the daily sessions.--Strategy

The classroom experience was excellent. Because we were "on site" all day for up to 2 weeks at a time it allowed for stronger relationships to develop. It gave opportunities to discuss real-world issues and get perspectives from many other executives as well as the faculty. It also allowed you to put aside your "normal daytime job" and concentrate on what you needed to learn in school. The subject matter was relevant and hit the real-world issues facing Corporate America today. The faculty did a great job of keeping the class actively involved (Even at 3 p.m. on the 10th consecutive day of 8-9 hours in class.) It was a miracle!--Management Consulting

[Improvements?] The B-school developed a very comprehensive plan to maximize classroom time while keeping the student sharp for each day's new learning experience. I cannot think of anything to improve.--Operations

[Corporate support?] There were so many changes with my sponsors at the company that almost no one who sponsored me was still working in my office by the time I graduated. Therefore there didn't appear to be much interest by anyone but me that I completed the program.--Finance

[Improvements?] The newer faculty need some coaching or they need to exit the program (I know UT has addressed some of this already, and from what I hear from some of the current class it sounds as if significant improvements have been made).--Marketing

[Improvements?] I was extremely satisfied with my EMBA experience. One improvement would be a more succinct reading list. The tremendous reading load assigned could be trimmed to key chapters, passages, etc.--Operations

I liked the way the program tried to integrate all the disciplines and used the team exercises to tie everything we learned together.--Finance

I truly believe that the UT-Knoxville EMBA program has a competitive advantage among the EMBA programs I researched. The ONE-year completion time is the reason I chose the program and also the reason my fellow students chose the program. When you couple this innovation with an unbelievable faculty, and the international trip to China and Korea, I believe that for me, the UT program is the best in the nation.--Operations

UT is the best-kept secret among EMBA programs. My quality manager is currently at Kellogg...and in talking with him, UT's expectations and quality of program is better. He stays on the same team all the time...UT rotated you so you had a chance to work with every classmate. He has no leadership- development curriculum compared to UT. His tuition is twice as much, but if I sponsor future EMBA candidates, I will present the benefits of UT and possibly even require it as the designated university.--Manufacturing
