2003 GRADUATE COMMENTS

Some schools are too focused either on the general management aspect or on the number crunching of specific discplines. The Kellogg Executive MBA provides a great blend of both general management and specific disciplines. Having recently formed my own company I truly rely on the classes and experience that I gained from Kellogg.--Operations

The Kellogg program was exactly what I was looking for. The course work, fellow students, faculty, location, and accommodations all were ideal for my circumstances. If I had to do it all over again I would certainly choose Kellogg.--Strategy

I believe that Kellogg ran an incredible program. The curriculum was very valuable and the professors talented. As the president of a small business, I was looking for a general management degree. Kellogg's program was geared toward this perspective and met my objective.--General Management

Kellogg gave me everything I expected: dedicated faculty, strong course work, and vast alumni resources. The Kellogg EMBA also gave me some unexpected skills that have had an immediate impact on my career: team management skills, "customer focus," and an awareness of management's role in society.--Finance

Kellogg was the perfect environment for higher learning. The quality and diversity of the students was exceptional and led to some of the best classroom discussions/arguments. The professors had real life experience with today's business issues. I could not imagine a better learning environment. The EMP support staff at Kellogg is top notch. The program is run extremely well.--Marketing

After doing my research on schools it was clear that Kellogg was the best fit for me. The professors were outstanding, the staff is unmatched, and the class had a great balance between industries, level of experience, and diversity, which led to excellent in and out of classroom discussions and learning. The team concept that Kellogg promotes led to development of life- long friendships and a great network of people.--Accounting

Having a BS in business, and having worked in almost all divisions of our 95- year-old family business, I was quite confident that I "knew it all" going into the program at Kellogg. My main take-away from the program was "I can't believe how little I knew."--Marketing

I would choose Kellogg again because the caliber of fellow students, stimulating/relevant faculty, and overall experience were outstanding. The support staff and administration were exceptional and a living example of the infectious Kellogg "can do" attitude.--Finance

The Kellogg EMBA is a unique and rewarding experience, excellent faculty and administrative support, and an atmosphere that feels like home away from home. The bi-weekly format balances the intensity of the MBA with the practicalities of executive life.--Finance

I was looking for a program that would fill in the holes in my technical skills (finance, marketing, strategy) and foster a strong sense of teamwork. Kellogg did exactly that!--Operations

[Faculty strengths/weaknesses?] The EMBA instructiors are highly active in their field through consulting engagements. You don't get much ivory tower perspectives from them, which is useful when you're trying to resolve your own business issues with practical solutions and not just theory.--Operations

[Faculty strengths/weaknesses?] The majority of professors were well aware of the type of program they were teaching and worked hard to match the curriculum to our needs. It was evident that this was an ongoing process which will keep the program at the top.--Engineering

[Faculty strengths/weaknesses?] Their greatest strength was their depth of understanding of a subject and their ability to put that in a historical context. Their weakness was that occasionally they were so focused on one specific topic that they could not see how other areas of an organization would be affected.--Operations

[Faculty strengths/weaknesses?] They seemed to be the cream of the crop of all Northwestern B-school instructors. They were engaging and sometimes entertaining but always professional and challenging. They lacked arrogance and were willing to learn from us as well as us from them.--Marketing

[Faculty strengths/weaknesses?] Strengths include their engagement with active, current Fortune 500 companies and their most challenging issues. The instructors challenged the students during lecture and did not give in to finishing the lecture on time. It seemed that they were convicted with ensuring the lecture was understood.--Marketing

[Faculty strengths/weaknesses?] The instructors were outstanding. The way that I described them to those who asked was that they were like entertainers that engaged the audience, who then became the show. Once this was achieved the instructors acted as conductors in an orchestra. I spent most of the program on the edge of my chair totally engaged.--Accounting

[Faculty strengths/weaknesses?] Experienced, good balance of theory and practical application, engaging, friendly, most were very responsive and approachable outside of class. Northwestern ensures that the best professors are available to teach the EMBA classes.--Strategy

[Changes to program?] Although it is probably impractical in an executive MBA program, I would have likedto extend the time allocated to each course. Fifteen hours per course is barely enough time to be introduced to the core concepts, let alone dive down for deeper understanding.--Product Development

[Changes to program?] Although it is difficult to do, it would be nice to have more guest speakers who are experts/big names in different fields of business. We had a few CEOs come and talk to us and this was a very rewarding experience for all.--Human Resources

[Changes to program?] Additional case studies that were more current or germane to some of the amazing changes that were occuring in the world during the last two years. Although we did receive some of that, more would have been welcomed. --Finance

[Changes to program?] The classroom experience was enhanced by the diversity of senior management perspectives from exceptional fellow students. I would like to have had more opportunities to gain greater insight into specific business problems and resulting solutions of fellow students.--Finance

[Improvements?] The Allen Center and its staff was top notch at helping everyone with all types of issues. The staff was responsive and always asking how to improve our experience. The only thing I could have asked for was better parking but my experience at other schools tells me that is a common problem!--Engineering

[Improvements?] The day-to-day experience, including family and workplace support, is almost impossible to fault. The Kellogg facility, support, and program staff are the definition of customer services.--Marketing

[Improvements?] At times the volume of reading and assignments, in addition to work responsibilities, seemed overwhelming. Maybe some suggestions on efficient study habits and stress management at the interview would shed some reality on what was to come and help us prepare to handle it.--Human Resources

[Corporate support?] In the end it's up to the MBA student to use the skills the company paid for to earn a higher salary/bonus or career advancement. --Marketing

[Corporate support?] My employers were very supportive. Not once was I asked to miss classes even though I was at school every other Friday. I have been promoted twice since starting the program so I have no real complaints. --Finance

For me, the EMBA experience was not as much about "book" learning as it was about personal growth and confidence building. Kellogg gave me the opportunity to calibrate my skills and understand where I needed to focus futher learning and growth efforts. The changes I have undergone have benefited both the professional and personal parts of my life. Thanks Kellogg and EMP54!!!--Operations
