Eighteen months is too intensive. We were always leaping into the next subject, and the professors couldn't slow the pace if we wanted to pursue some interesting or challenging tangents.--Business Development
Boston University has an outstanding program, working closely with the students with the "theme" of continuous improvment in mind. I enjoyed the 17 months of hard work, and the networking that took place with the other students, as well as faculty and administration.--Operations
The staff had broad backgrounds and were recognized experts in their fields. Courses were effectively run and provided a curriculum that closely matched my needs, particularly in terms of global strategy.--Manufacturing
[Faculty strengths/weaknesses?] Strengths: The best professors were experts in the subject matter AND expert educators. They were able to draw the class down a particular path, but were willing to explore new avenues in the case material, finding ways to tie it into the teaching themes. Weakness: There was some diversity in the professors ability so at times the style and experience didn't match, making for some disjointed days.--Marketing
The majority of teachers knew how to teach adults with years of work experience and draw the experience out to enrich the classroom discussion. A small minority of instructors were used to teaching regular MBA classes and therefore did not use this method to enrich the classroom.--Marketing
[Changes to program?] More rigorous screening of participants, finance and accounting background, and experience. They tended to teach to the middle of the pack. The more advanced students were less challenged in these particular disciplines.--Strategy
[Improvements?] I would suggest talking personally with students during the program to see if everything is fine and to check in from time to time how we managed with work, family, and school.--Marketing
[Improvements?] More group bonding would have been good. We all stayed at the same hotel but hardly ever went out with each other. I wish I had interacted more with people at the beginning of the program.--Operations
It was a life-changing experience for me as a leader, manager, and person. I believe that the EMBA program provided me with a richer education than a regular MBA, based on the deep and diverse experiences of my classmates. I have made lifelong friends. The teamwork aspect, though difficult at times, was great, especially for classmates who have either spent their entire lives as individual contributors or as high-level managers who simply give orders.--Marketing
The unique and distinguishing element of the BU EMBA program was the program's focus on teamwork and leadership. Anyone can be taught to balance a balance sheet, as there's a defined and widely accepted process for doing so. The tools and perspective imparted on us that will prepare and enable me to assume greater management and leadership roles was extraordinary. The management building is state-of-the-art was a very good setting for executive learning.--Strategy
