TECHNOLOGY
Wireless network in main buildings: Yes
School's investment in technology over the past three years: $9,363,000
Technology changes made over the past three years:
Laptop computers are required for all MBA students. This year a new computer lab was created exclusively for lap-top users. All classroom seats now have power outlets and 100 Mb/sec network connections. The network "backbone" is fiber optic at 1 giga-bit/sec.
The wireless LAN was upgraded this year and now provides coverage to all student-accessible public areas such as student lounges, the library, study rooms, May Auditorium, and the Lopata Courtyard.
Prometheus eLearning courseware (now part of Blackboard, Inc.) was introduced last year and is now available to all students and their professors. This "virtual learning community" provides Web-based access to syllabi, course materials, threaded discussions, chat and other features. Advanced users have incorporated features like video-on-demand, self-paced learning modules and interactive simulation.
Each year, approximately one third of the student computer lab PCs are replaced with "leading edge" systems. This year, new machines were Dell computers with 2.26 Ghz Pentium 4 processors, 256 MB RAM, 19" color monitors, and read/writeable CD drives. The school added a new hp 20 ppm duplex color laser printer. The lab also has several high-speed laser printers, and scanners.
New behind-the-scenes technology purchased this year include new servers for student and faculty files, a new server for Prometheus, increased disk storage to accommodate multimedia applications, and faster communications switches.
A Polycom video conferencing system is available and is often used by students for interviewing with companies.
