CLASS OF 2002 GRADUATE COMMENTS

I can't imagine a better business school experience than what I had at Sloan. The faculty members are all leaders in their fields, my classmates were some of the most impressive people I have met, and the small class size and flexible curriculum offer an unbeatable academic and social environment. -- Consulting

MIT is a small, intimate community of talented achievers, and attracts a certain type of personality; confident, assured, humble, and non-intimidating. I would definitely recommend it to my friends who are of a similar type and would fit this sort of culture. -- Marketing

I believe that Sloan was the best experience for someone like me, a person with an outgoing personality and very little business experience. Sloan gave me an excellent base in the fundamentals of finance and I was also able to network very effectively with my other classmates. -- Finance

Tremendous overall experience, diversity in student body, and learning opportunities. However, the Sloan program is best tailored to individuals who aren't afraid of the quantitative side of business. -- Marketing

MIT is the place to be for people interested in the mix of Business, Technology, and Entrepreneurship. When reading about the latest innovation in the news, there is a good chance I've already met the scientist or entrepreneur at MIT who is making the breakthrough. -- Marketing

I think the incredibly smart but down to earth students and world-class faculty, combined with the amazing resources of the broader MIT community, make Sloan the best choice for anyone serious about working in the high-tech industry. -- Marketing

Sloan offers a tremendous contact to business leaders and industry experts. It is a fabulous place to go to expand your toolkit and your network. -- Marketing

I believe the relatively high proportion of international students is very valuable. In addition, I found that students were much more likely to work together and help others. Internal competition was, thankfully, not an issue. Student involvement in all aspects of the curriculum, and extra-curricular activities is very high. -- Entrepreneurship

Sloan has an excellent faculty and an outstanding, highly collaborative student body. Its links to the rest of MIT, as well as its location, make it an outstanding place to start a new business, a great center for corporate recruiting, and, generally, a terrific place to spend two years. The breadth of its curriculum make it a strong place to launch a career in any field perhaps with the exception of nonprofit management, which receives less emphasis. -- Information Technology

I really enjoyed the fact that Sloan was 40% international. The first semester teams were set up so that each team had some foreign students on them. As a result, my experience felt a lot more diverse than if there had only been Americans on the team. Sloan is a great example of how diversity of background can benefit the MBA experience. -- Finance

Sloan not only has the MBA program, but also the Sloan Fellows, a one year program for candidates with extensive experience, the Leaders for Manufacturing program, and the Management of Technology program. All electives are open to these different groups and it really adds to the learning to have such a diverse group of people with varying experience-levels and areas of expertise in the classroom. -- Marketing

I began school in 1998 and dropped out after my first year to help start a company. Sloan was incredibly supportive of my efforts in addition to making it easy for me to return to finish this year. Many other schools are not so supportive of entrepreneurial efforts. Sloan's curriculum, policies, and programs quite obviously make it a leader in the field of entrepreneurship. -- Venture Capital/Private Equity

Sloan offers an amazing list of electives with the brainiest, most well-respected names in finance, economics, etc. The core, which really sets the school apart, drills in the fundamentals that allow the student to comprehend the concepts introduced in the higher level classes. Too many other schools throw you into case studies without first building a solid platform of understanding. Cases help with application, but they are not the most efficient way to learn the basics of accounting, option pricing, etc. -- Investment Banking

Although I was very pleased with Sloan academically, the main reason I would encourage friends or colleagues to enroll at Sloan is because of the students and the culture they have built. The admissions staff does an exceptional job of admitting a very nice mix of truly outstanding students who are not only bright and motivated, but are also supportive, creative, compassionate, and fun. -- Marketing

In my mind, the MBA program at Sloan is a life changing experience that provides graduates with an arsenal of management knowledge and a network of colleagues that is very difficult, if not impossible, to obtain in the workforce in a comparable time period. -- Consulting

A person's choice of MBA program should be guided by their personal needs, qualities, and career goals. For anyone who wants serious development in entrepreneurship, technology, finance, economics, and the quantitative side of business management, Sloan is perfect. It is also just right for people who care more about substance than flash, more about the truth than spin, more about being down to earth than buzz or style. -- Entrepreneurship

[Do you feel you could have learned as much from a distance-learning MBA program?] The most valuable part of the MIT program was the community of students and faculty, who were perhaps the smartest bunch of people you will ever get to work with in your lifetime. This would be difficult to replicate with a distance program. Plus the close links with greater MIT and the experience of living in Boston (just fabulous) was worth every minute. -- Marketing
