CLASS OF 2002 GRADUATE COMMENTS

I found the program to be highly supportive and collaborative in nature. I am a career changer with a liberal arts background and found that support necessary for B-school survival and success. That support came from a well- balanced student body and committed faculty and administration. -- Finance

The Johnson School is a very unique place. It's a tightly knit community with all the pluses and minuses that situation entails. I would only encourage colleagues to attend if they were of a mindset to get seriously involved in the school and in meeting people. People who do not get involved in activities, improving the school, and so on tend to not get as much out of the experience. -- Consulting

The faculty was outstanding and committed to teaching. Students were extremely bright, yet down to earth and not overly competitive. Aside from the cold winters, Ithaca is a great place. -- Finance

Obviously, people look for different things in the business schools they consider, but anyone looking for a school that generates significant leadership opportunities, has a student body that constitutes a true "community" and also want a strong foundation in general management plus intensive learning in career specific tracks would be well-served to go to Cornell. -- Marketing

Cornell has a great MBA program. The immersions available to first-years are excellent preparation for the all-important internship. This is especially valuable for career switchers. I took the Strategic Brand Management immersion and it really prepared me for my internship. In fact, during the summer my fellow interns from other top B-schools commented on how fortunate Johnson School students are because Johnson School students don't spend the entire first year on the core and instead wind up being more prepared for their internships! -- Marketing

Cornell has the best combination of class size, job placement, academics, and culture. -- Investment Banking

Cornell has a vast alumni network which helps with networking/job opportunities. The program itself is rigorous and both faculty and students are of high caliber and are great resources. -- Finance

I was also very pleased with the flexibility that our business school allows in taking classes outside of the Johnson School. Not only that, students could receive credit for doing so. This was great for those who either had other interests or wanted to position themselves with recruiting companies as having a deeper understanding in a particular field of study. -- Finance

Contrary to traditional thought, I believe that a lot of Cornell's charm is in its remote location of Ithaca, NY. I did not choose the school because of this fact, but I have a sincere appreciation for it since I have left. I do not think that my business school experience would have been nearly as rich had I gone to a business school that is located in a more urban area. I also believe that I was able to focus much more on studies and on relationships with my classmates than I would have had I not attended Cornell. It has been only three months, but I already miss my colleagues, the campus, and Ithaca -- I wish I was heading back for one more year! -- Venture Capital/Private Equity

A significant reason I attended the Johnson School is because of the Park Fellowship Program. This program gives full tuition plus stipend along with specialized leadership training in return for a service project. Not only did the financial support make it possible for me to get my MBA, the experience I had on this program was invaluable! I think this program is a big advantage for the Johnson School, giving them the ability to attract the best candidates. -- Marketing

It's simply an incredible experience! In addition to the excellent education that I received, I can't ignore the intangibles: friendships and the network. I think these intangibles are equally as important as getting a permanent job and receving an education. -- Anonymous

Cornell was perfect for my MBA experience. I have met and competed against peers from other top ten schools during job interviews. I discovered that Cornell prepared me just as well, if not better than, the other candidates. In fact, I attribute my five summer job offers from top Wall Street investment banks to my Cornell experience. Cornell is a small, personal school that correctly emphasizes a well-rounded education. However, it was the size of the school and quality of the core class that allowed me to compete and interview effectively throughout the recruiting process. -- Investment Banking

The cost-benefit analysis for the Cornell MBA is excellent. Having had the opportunity to meet and work with other MBAs from other top 10 schools, I believe that - on average - the school is at least equivalent with the other top schools, and can compensate for whatever category it might lag behind with other qualities or offerings that are better there than in other schools. -- Anonymous

[Do you feel you could have learned as much from a distance-learning MBA program?] I cannot stress enough how much I have learned from my peers. I was pushed and challenged during both my team and individual projects. Also, the professors were so accessible that I was always able to walk in and ask questions more than I would have been able to do on my own. Email and the internet are not substitutes for these experiences. -- Finance
