Major technology improvements have focused on the Internet, broadband networks and distance learning solutions. HEC is now connected to Internet 2. Commodity Internet bandwidth from 1998 to 2002 has risen by a factor of 40. At the same time, usage of ATM QOS links over Internet 2 has enabled HEC to participate in trans-European distance learning programmes, co-financed by the European Commission, using MPEG-2 videoconferencing. Other programs, sponsored by the World Bank, include broadcasting of live courses by satellite to French speaking countries in Africa, and to partners in Latin America.
