GRADUATE COMMENTS

Untitled I learned what I wanted to learn, which was how to start and run a business. I also did extensive research on the courses offered by each executive MBA program in my area, and Vanderbilt had the most complete and comprehensive curriculum. --Manufacturing

Vanderbilt and Emory are the only two highly regarded and nationally recognized programs close to my home. Vanderbilt was my choice because of the depth of the finance components of the curriculum and because they bent over backwards to accommodate my special needs. --Legal

The program was staffed with excellent professors with current relevancy to the business world. --Strategy

(Suggestions?) At the start of the first year, the one week (program) away from Owen was excellent for fostering a sense of community. They should consider a second week at the start of the second year. A few Friday night class activities would also be welcome. --Supply Chain

Professors emphasized not just the theoretical-technical issues, but also the practical, strategic and tactical application of the idea or issue. --Psychology

The school did not allow us to use all of the services available to full time students, including access to their network for some services, or access to career counseling. Career center was off limits to those whose companies paid for the program (understandably), but they also would not let those paying for their own education access to services. During our program, 10 or more classmates were job hunting without any support from the school. --Strategy

The EMBA program at Vanderbilt was challenging, and at the same time a great learning experience. I have a relatively senior position within my company, and consequently can apply many of the (lessons) from the program. I believe students that do not have direct management experience would not find the experience as rich as student with more experience. --Manufacturing

While the workload was tremendous at times, I felt that if we had taken just a little slower pace we would have been able to master the material much better. --Business Technology It would have been helpful if overnight accommodations were arranged for those from out of town. --Anonymous

Excellent healthcare option. --Medicine

The Executive MBA program at Owen far exceeded all my expectations. Since the start of the program, I have been applying much of what I learned. And today, I make educated business decisions and follow a decision process that is very different than before. I also have the confidence and understanding to work with financial people and financial statements which has made my work much more fulfilling and beneficial to my company. --President

(Improvements?) A better leadership course. Vandy has a weekend leadership course that should be expanded. Leadership is the thing that ties everything together and it should be stressed. --Marketing

As my wife can attest, my studies have had a dramatic affect on my business skills. Not being a teacher, I would say that I'm not sure I could recommend a way to improve the classroom experience. I can say that the school did a great job of getting the students input and making the students feel as if they were being heard; in fact, we saw immediate changes take place upon request by the students. Vandy did a great job of helping my wife adjust, however, there is always room for improvement there.--Strategy

(If you could do it again?) I would search for an EMBA program which allowed you to (1) pick a concentration, and (2) utilize the career center if tuition is paid by the individual (student), not by the company. --Anonymous
