GRADUATE COMMENTS

Untitled Anderson is a terrific academic environment with excellent full-time and part-time MBA's. That being said, they've yet to perfect the EMBA curriculum (i.e. class subjects and time spent on non-value added "core" courses). --Marketing

The strengths of the EMBA instructors included their well-rounded combination of professional, consulting, and research experience, as well as teaching skills. They all had an ability to structure the course material, class lectures, case studies, and class discussion to match the experience level of the class and to build a collegial relationship with all the students. I truly believe we got the best professors in the school. --Strategy

At this time in my life - married with two children and supporting a family - UCLA was the best choice for me. In retrospect, I think it would have been better for me to get my MBA when I was younger. In that case I would have expanded my accpetable geography and looked at schools in the midwest or east coast. --Finance

(Instructors?) Strengths: Current to the latest industry trends and the economy. Many of the instructors are directly involved with the leaders of the business world in providing insight to the changing dynamics of the world. Weaknesses: Sometimes the use of antiquated cases hampered the learning experience. This seemed to be isolated to select few of the adjunct professors and not the entire faculty for the EMBA program. --Manufacturing

(Instructors?) Most of them are on the board of advisors to various federal and other foreign governments laws and policy making bodies. Some of them have their own companies and almost all of them are very well known and admired in the academic and professional circles. --Information Technology

(Improvements?) A more rigorous expectation from the students. There was a tremendous amount of work and the cases were challenging. However, if some students were not prepared there weren't the right incentives in place for them to be prepared the next time around. --Operations

An excellent experience. I anticipated that the interaction with 30- and 40-somethings would be rich and add to the education experience -- and I was not disappointed. Although career/job assistance was offered, it was not advocated or incorporated as part of the program, and it should have been. Very few of our class members anticipated remaining with their current employers after completion of the program, and I bet over 50% of us changed jobs during the two-year program. A very rewarding experience -- I only wish the job market had stayed hot! --Finance

Anderson has a great technically advanced case-study classroom environment with high speed internet access and e-mail capability for each student. However, sometimes the use of this technology can be distracting to others in the class. At times, I wished that the instuctors would have restricted the use of the technology to limit distractions or that the amphitheater-style seating provided more quiet. --Director

I think the six-month international field study needs to be restructured. What was originally conceived as an opportunity for students to travel abroad and work with a non-U.S. company may no longer have value in today's global business environment. Most students have already traveled extensively and many work for multi-national corporations. In addition, it is very difficult for the EMBAs to put in quality work on an intensive field study due to their own work commitments. These commitments prevent them from being able to focus on the research and work with the host company as regularly as necessary. Thes international field study portion of the program gave me an opportunity to travel to some wonderful countries, but I'm not sure the learning experience was what it could have been. --Strategy I found the UCLA EMBA program in total to be one of the best experiences of my life. The faculty was top-notch and student interaction and collegiality superb. The workload was very intense however I believe it worthwhile in strengthening my abilities as General Manager at our manufacturing site. --General Manager
