GRADUATE COMMENTS

Untitled Southern Methodist University SMU not only provided the knowledge in which to meet todays business challenges but they also provided tools of discernment to navigate through the "jungle." The quality and professionalism of the teaching staff as well as their materials were outstanding. Also, the interaction between faculty and students was exceptional. -- Marketing SMU provided a perfect mix of technical nuts and bolts and conceptual blueprints to pull it all together. I was very impressed with the caliber of the faculty. --Concept Development

We had a very vocal class...if we experienced something we didn't like....it was expressed....and you could clearly see that SMU was attempting to continually improve the program. The resources, overall, at the University are also very strong. Accounting, Strategy, Marketing all examined with intensity. Led by Linda Kao, the capstone trip to China was also done exceedingly well. --Operations Analysis

(Instructors?) Their greatest strength was their ability to use current topics and case studies to facilitate class discussion, drawing upon the greater group knowledge and experience to teach. Only a couple of the professors relied too heavily on lectures as a teaching method. --Mergers & Acquisitions

The level of quality "Leadership Programs" was beyond my expectations. The instructors have the ability to open one's eyes and imagination to the wonders, and pitfalls, found in the business world. --Operations

The instructors that had previous EMBA experience understood the dynamics of EMBA students - the questions, the point-counterpoint analysis, the fact that students possessed more specialized / technical knowledge than the instructors in certain areas. The instructors without EMBA experience learned fairly quickly that this was a different level of student and required a different level of interaction and teaching. --Finance

The Executive MBA program at SMU is the most respected program in the Southwest. My credentials were complete upon graduation from this program to provide Independent Consulting Services to Fortune 500 Companies. --Accounting

The program did not provide a structured Campus Recruiting Program directed at EMBA's who ARE NOT sponsored by a Corporation. I paid for the program myself. Other students were subsidized by their companies---therefore the school did not want to damage relations with corporations by appearing to encourage EMBA's to interview for jobs. For the "Non-Corporate" sponsored EMBA this is a problem. So my job hunting efforts have been through my contacts---with little or no contribution from the school. As more independent consultant's complete the program, the school must address this critical issue! --Finance

The program was excellent. We as a class committed to a $1,000,000 gift to the school. I learned a great deal from my classmates as well as the professors. The program was very rigorous, and I felt I recieved a full MBA, not a seminar course. --Marketing

(Improvements?) More physically comfortable classroom - seating, lighting and projector brightness. Of course, SMU is constructing a new building which we will not experience. Also, providing snacks and refreshments would have been very good. --Operations

(Improvements?) A high-end notebook personal computer plus software should be bundled into the total package, just like the textbooks. This would increase the "electronic" commonality of the EMBA student community. --Finance

The EMBA program at SMU opened my eyes to the challenges and opportunities that exist today. I have now taken my consulting practice to the next level and am purchasing a business. This will allow me to apply what I have learned, and will also continue my quest for knowledge! --Operations
