GRADUATE COMMENTS

Untitled Overall my impression is that this EMBA degree is an "MBA-Lite". Watered down and shortened so that anyone with enough money can obtain that coveted, career-enhancing three-letter degree without doing a lot of work. This was a "cakewalk" compared to my undergraduate engineering degree. --Product Development

(Instructors?) Mostly leading edge, very responsive. One professor was not sufficiently open to classmate's knowledge, but he was replaced the following year. --Operations

Coming from a technical background the program gave me the knowledge and tools to navigate into a wide array of management positions… I now feel prepared to handle a senior management position with confidence, leadership skills and business acumen. --Operations

(Instructors?) The greatest strength of my professors were their enthusiasm for their subjects and ability to involve the students in discussion. Given the diversity of backgrounds of students in the program, some of the most interesting insights are provided by hearing the experiences of people from different professions and fields. Some professors' biggest weakness was lacking this ability to facilitate discussion and simply to rely on lectures to convey information. --Finance

Our classroom was too big at 50 students. I always felt that 30-35 would have been easier to administer and participate in. --Operations

[The program] was both a humbling and a confidence-building experience. I was humbled by the insight and experience of my colleagues, who added a wonderful dimension to our discussions. At the same time, [the program] was a positive reinforcement for my personal strengths and abilities. I was able to view my own skills and experiences outside of my regular framework and gain a clearer perspective of how and when I add value in the business process. --Strategy

All the students must be prepared for class or they should not be part of the discussion. While it was not a big problem, it needs to be addressed. --Finance

Carlson EMBA did a fantastic job taking care of all logistical issues. I was very impressed with their attention to detail. --Operations

The focus on the administration it heavily weighted towards pleasing the sponsoring corporation. The actual long-term holder of the degree is the true owner of the program results. The Administration needs to recognize this and change to meet the long-term advancement needs of the Alumni. Operations Instructors? Excelled at managing classroom discussion. Engaged a diversity of students and avoided focus on just a few. Across the spectrum of instructors, witnessed a variety of instructional styles and techniques. --Marketing

The structure of the program fit into a busy work/family schedule and the administration was supportive of the individual's needs and let the students concentrate on learning, not on "administrative" distractions. --Strategy
