GRADUATE COMMENTS

Untitled For me, the Georgetown IEMBA program provided a near-perfect package of content and format. The school's reputation, its focus on teaching, and the quality of the faculty and students would definitely bring me back if I had it to do all over again. In fact, in spite of the fact that my life is a little simpler now without full time courses to go along with a full time job, I'm a little sad to have completed the program. --International Relations

Georgetown was the top school in the area that I could attend and still work full time without traveling to attend class. In addition, after attending several continuing education classes that the full time professors taught, I was very impressed with their ability and the school's commitment to top-of-the-line education. --Strategy

Most of the profs were also consultants who worked in the business environment. I believe this provided a great deal of relevance to their lesson plans. We spent little time on principles for principles sake. All or most of the teaching was, and continues to be, useful to me everyday. All of the profs also had a great stage presence. I was rarely bored and constantly engaged. If I had to state a weakness, it would probably be that the instructors were too accommodating to individuals and sometimes to the majority. The program was extremely rigorous, but in a few courses, slackers sometimes held us back. I would also say that the instructors did not allow this to perpetuate. --Finance

Most of the instructors had experience consulting large corporations and solving problems for them, this was a great advantage that they shared with us. They were not just faculty geeks teaching what they learned in school and from books or research. The main weakness that I think some of them had was that they concentrated in a given area of expertise, and left some parts of general business practice aside. --Strategy

The Georgetown program provided a state of the art look at general management issues (including solid finance training), combined with a really thorough treatment of international business today. Those were my two main objectives from the program. In addition, the quality of the teaching in the program was exceptional and carried over into the organization and conduct of two international residency consulting projects in China and Mexico. The program was also by far the best in this geographical area, which was very important since the international travel demands of my current position would not easily have permitted additional travel outside this area. Finally, the focus on teams and the intense lock-step curriculum helped me form friendships that I'm sure will last my whole life. It was exceptionally demanding, but I'd do this again in a minute -- one of the best experiences of my life. --Telecom International Regulatory Affairs

Most of the instructors engaged and challenged the students to think analytically while at the same time encouraging alternative solutions to business problems. The in-class discussion, aptly guided by the faculty, provided a rich learning context. --Business Development

It was highly motivating to be exposed to professors who were among the best thinkers in their respective fields. The intellectual caliber of my fellow classmates set the performance bar particularly high and motivated me to deliver my best work. --Marketing

The most difficult aspect of the program was balancing the heavy workload with my family life. This was a far greater challenge than balancing it with work. There was little formal recognition of this challenge, and no support or counseling available. --Chief, Department of Medical Information

Day to day was generally positive. The facilities for lunch were good but were too far away from the classrooms. Valuable time (that could have been better utilized for team meetings, homework, work responsibilities, personal time, etc.) was wasted. More consideration and utilization of near-classroom meals would have improved day to day operations. On a broader basis: the IEMBA staff were excellent, however the overall support and organization from the parent University (Georgetown) was atrocious. The program needs to be better integrated into the overall university (although this could be said for numerous programs within the university). Most importantly, Georgetown University needs to recognize the value and potential contribution of future alumni from the IEMBA program. --Government Affairs/Public Policy

Teaching was the schools core competency. In addition, the professor's consulting practices outside of the university helped breathe everyday life into the curriculum. If there was any area of weakness it was research. --Commercial Real Estate Appraiser

During the second year of the program I would have preferred to have some flexibilty with regard to the mix of classes offered to the students. As the program is presently organized, all students take the same set of courses from start to finish. It would be nice to have the opportunity to take elective courses during the second year allowing students to enhance skills in specific areas of interest. --Business Development
