The University of Chicago program gave me the emphasis on quantitative skills I was looking for as well as incredibly sophisticated views of both finance and economics. Also, interacting with and learning from top-notch fellow students from a variety of industries was at least as valuable as everything else about the program. Marketing.
I expected to learn a great deal in the program and to develop some great relationships, and all of my expectations were blown away. I view business and life from a new perspective. I found the experience to be mind opening. The relationships I have developed with students and professors will be treasured for years to come. The program involved great commitment and personal sacrifice and was well worth the effort. Operations
Instructors? University of Chicago made representations to their students on what the program would teach and how they would teach. Their representations were on the mark, they delivered what was promised, not teaching what to think, but how to think. Finance
Suggestions? Better help with career planning and finding a way to take advantage of the huge investment made in the program. I went through the executive program and the University seems to struggle with whom they serve first - the student or the current employer. Technical Management
Suggestions? The executive program, in our little world, was a wonderful community! I wish, however, that we'd had more opportunities to work at the Hyde Park campus to feel a sense of unity with the Main Campus program. The program gave us a few opportunities for classes at the Hyde Park Campus, but it only reinforced in my mind the need to do it a bit more often. Sales
Suggestions? The only issue I had was when we were combined with our Barcelona counterparts. I do not feel, on average, that the Barcelona group had the work ethic appropriate for this school nor the contribution to aid to my learning to the level I had hoped. Marketing
I lacked a quantitative background and U of C forced me to learn it. I could have taken the easy route and gone to Kellogg with the other marketers but I chose the challenging path. As long as I was going to do it I wanted to get the most out of the program. Marketing.
Instructors? Exceptional at drawing on the experience in the class to provide context for the curriculum. Also strong at mixing case study/preparation with lecture for a complete picture. Sales.
Instructors? Many professors had intense experience in investment banking, consulting and finance, which added to their research and combined to provide state-of-the art insights unavailable elsewhere. Many professors had studied with some of the recent economics Nobel winners and were ahead of the curve in where the hottest areas for research and practice were heading. Strategy
It is not just an EMBA. We got a proper MBA degree after a rigorous program. [It was] a degree that we worked real hard for - not just paid for. Self-employed
Suggestions? The program did not have any provisions for elective courses, although we were allowed to take a couple of extra classes on our own during the semester immediately following completion of the program. The addition of some electives would allow individuals to better tailor the program to their individual needs. Marketing & Operations
I choose U of C for its finance and econ approach to teaching. I was not disappointed. The only weakness is probably the lack of additional marketing classes. Finance
University of Chicago (Barcelona students)
Some of the senior professors were unwilling to travel to Barcelona to lecture. Therefore, junior assistants were sent to lecture instead. While competent and well prepared, [they had] perhaps less practical and teaching experience. CEO
The school offered plenty of diversity in its student base, which allowed me to challenge some of my common workplace beliefs. It also provided the forum for me to offer and defend and my ideas with individuals who have many varied and distinctly different backgrounds than my own. This diversity taught me how to look at challenges and issues in many different ways than I had seen before. Supply Chain
Suggestions? Could present more international cases and examples. The U.S. is overly present in the case studies. Marketing
Instructors? The strengths were that they were highly involved in creating the de facto standard of business through their research and publications. The weakness may be that some of the lectures were more US centered than international. Investments
Hotel was the choice for accommodations as it was difficult to rent an apartment for the short duration. However, the staff was willing to help if we wished. They could direct us to restaurants and other items we may have needed while we were there. Accounting
The University of Chicago took the quantitative approach that I expected. Hard skills where emphasized, the program was extremely well organized and everybody was very disciplined. The faculty was excellent. Finance
Suggestions? Overall, I wish that the school did more to promote the fact that the EMBA program is very similar to the main campus, full-time program- especially regarding course material, instructors and overall rigorousness. Chicago has made efforts to convey this to the business community, but more could be done. Not Specified
Instructors adapted very well the EMBA Chicago program to our international program in Barcelona. The only weak point is that being the Barcelona campus so far from main Chicago campus, one misses a bit the university campus life and culture. Marketing
I am pursuing an international career path and I wanted to attend classes with a truly international and diverse group of students, while at the same time, enjoying the quality education that a first class institution provides. The class schedule, the instructors, the students & the setting were all terrific. Strategy
The obvious risk was that the U of C couldn't deliver the same quality of education across the Atlantic. My concerns were quickly dispelled. The professors were excellent. I feel that I have left this program with the same fundamentals that the University of Chicago is known for, along with the benefit of my classmates' experiences. Moreover, the diversity of the student body (80 execs from 36 countries) made my fellow classmates an incredibly interesting group of people. Finance
