GRADUATE COMMENTS

Untitled The program was built from a foundation of peers that shared their personal experiences in a variety of industries. These experiences were the cornerstones of the class discussion and the basis of learning. From there, some of the top educators in their fields gave current, insightful and relevant talking points for applying the course materials. Seventeen months of complete immersion in learning was orchestrated well with three succinct modules designed to build the person, the team member, and the manger. The university dedicated a floor of the management school to executive learning, including a staff of administrators and professors who knew how to focus the energy and frustrations of today's managers. The result is a program that is 100% relevant to managing today's businesses! --Marketing

Boston University's EMBA program used an integrative approach to its curriculum which is very different from many other programs which look at each course as separate units, rather than part of the whole. This was a key factor in my selection of schools to attend. The program required students to complete a comprehensive business plan and present it to venture capitalists for consideration. This performance level required students to demonstrate the skills and knowledge gained through the program. Diversity of the students in the program was also a key factor in my rating. --Marketing

The faculty definitely know their respective fields. Some faculty went beyond teaching and sought to gain from the experience represented in the classroom. This tended to provide a more robust learning experience. Other faculty taught the material and that was it. They saw students, not managers and executives. --Investment Management

Boston University has a strict admission policy, ensuring admission of students that can contribute to the learning process. A good portion of the learning I acquired was from students as the experience in the classroom was pretty significant. --Marketing

(Instructors ) Strengths: Many of the professors had written text books about their subjects; some had worked in industry within their fields of academic research; most were able to challenge the students and engage us in lively discussions; many had a sense of humor and enjoyed the opportunity to teach executives; some used creative techniques to instruct us. Weaknesses: EMBA instructors need to balance encouraging class participation/discussion with maintaining the quality of the students' comments. Most of the professors were able to do this. -- Sales Management Most instructors had actual business experience so the classroom discussions were not just theory but, based on actual business knlowledge and scenarios. The purely "academic" faculty was a weakness. Although, there were very few of those! --Operations

We were assigned cases to read, analyze, and discuss with our team. Then during class discussion, the CEO of the case joined us for live case analysis/discussion. It answered a lot of questions and put to rest a number of assumptions. --Technical Support

Level of classmate experience and background varied greatly in some cases to the extent that sometimes more effort was spent in getting individuals up to speed then sharing and learning. --Marketing

As an internal management consultant, I would have appreciated some greater depth in certain subjects. The broad scope of the program and having a fixed set of courses precluded the deeper dives in selected areas. --Strategy

I almost always left the classroom wanting to continue the discussions. By design, the EMBA program is an exercise in "drinking from a firehose." This is great for maximum exposure to varieties of topics, but limits deep diving into any one subject. Overall, I prefer this approach and accept the drawbacks. --Marketing

The school went out of its way to accommodate the participants. As always, the food could have been better in the executive dining room. But overall, Boston University did very good at meeting the needs of the students. --Operations

The school, instructors, administration, participants, and program were all excellent. The one area that could be worked on would be career guidance/services. I understand that there is a fine line between the company sponsorship and school partnerships however, the support given to the EMBA graduates is negligible. There was some guidance relative to our individual pursuit of counseling, but not in conjunction with the school. --Operations
