Student Comments
I am a German Fulbright scholar where the final choice of the host university is made by the scholarship-granting organization (the German Fulbright Commission), not by myself. Originally I did not intend to go to Miami; however, this "imposed-on-me" decision by the Fulbright Commission turned out to be very beneficial and enriching to me, both in terms of interpersonal and professional skills. The University of Miami School of Business provided an outstanding learning experience, although I believe that this could have been even better if the School of Business' admissions office would be more selective. They should use higher standards of academic achievement and intellectual ability in order to admit new students. To me it appears that admissions is more inherently selective in terms of income, given the high tuition at the University of Miami. The University of Miami, located in Miami, the "northernmost point of Latin America," draws a high percentage of its student body from Central and South America, enriching the international flavor of the University of Miami significantly. Hence, UM is attracting mainly FINANCIALLY able students. --Consulting

I chose the University of Miami sight unseen, based on their literature alone. The facilities, professors, and communication with the professional world were all disappointing. They have forgotten who the customer is, and felt that once we, as students, completed one semester (or before we had a chance to figure it out), we were locked into the program. As a professional returning to school, I was expecting a much more practical program. If I were to do it all over again, I would have applied to many more top-tier schools. I now realize the effect this has on the companies I have direct access to. I could go on for hours, but I do not think it will do any good. --Investment Banking

The University of Miami, represented a very special situation for me, and as such was one that I was very pleased to be able to take part in. The real highlights included research opportunities (two of my classes were independent studies), the chance to participate in the many national and international functions that take place in Miami, and a surprisingly international mind-set of the student body. I'd guess that 75% of the students speak an additional language with fluency. Negatives that I have to bring to light include the absence of an educational focus for the senior administration, and the fact that about a third of the students are straight from college, with no work experience at all. --Finance

The Ziff Placement Center at the University of Miami proved to be the best thing about the school. Generally, the quality of professors was extremely poor and the responsiveness of the administration to student needs was nonexistent. I would never recommend the MBA program at the University of Miami. There are countless other programs out there offering equally poor MBA experiences for a fraction of the cost. --Marketing

My unfavorable review of my program reflects my very high expectations in accordance to the cost. For the money, I expected (and I believe the school has the potential to offer) an outstanding program, not the "average" program I received. --Information Technology

In terms of educational value, my MBA from the University of Miami is not worth anywhere near what I paid. Furthermore, I believe the MBA program administrators grossly and consistently exaggerate the placement success of their graduates. --Finance

The MBA program at the University of Miami is great because most of the teachers really know how to combine real-life scenarios with academics. Most of them do that by giving examples of real things that have happened to them and their company in the working world. --Marketing

The MBA as a learning experience exceeded my expectations. The University of Miami's MBA also exceeded my expectations in terms of instruction. The placement at the University of Miami lacks, and is what holds this program back from being, a top MBA program. --Finance

This is a good school. What I really like about it is its constant efforts for improvement, such as the new buildings, faculty, computers, etc. I really feel that the business school values the students. One other thing that I found important is that this school is so diverse. I come from a small country, but right now I have friends from all over the world -- from Trinidad and Tobago to China. This much diversity is amazing! --Marketing

The MBA experience at the University of Miami was wonderful. The international student body brings many different perspectives into the learning experience. I truly don't understand why this program does not receive nationwide attention. My salary increased five times (from 20K to 105K) from before to after the program. The classroom facilities are amazing, the faculty is excellent, and the student body is as diverse as any school in the nation. I also want to clarify that the other three B-school programs that I applied to were Cornell, Duke, and U of Michigan. I had sufficient GPA and GMAT scores, but my work experience was lacking, according to those schools. --Anonymous Needed more teamwork focus. Needs to make tremendous strides in e-business. --Finance

I started a business since my graduation from B-school and have used my specialization in leadership to aid me throughout this challenging experience. I walked away from B-school with the confidence and attitude that I can build and run a successful corporation. University of Miami was a great school because of the professors. I have had many professors put their home telephone numbers on the syllabus so that we would be able to ask questions during evening hours, or on the weekends. They were truly dedicated to my well-being, not only as a student in their class but also as a future MBA in the business world. I am grateful for that today. --Entrepreneurship
