Student Comments
The school has put too much influence on student organizations, without helping the clubs, as requested by students. The quality of teaching has dramatically improved. Courses are much more demanding than two years ago when I began [the two-year program]. Extracurricular activities, such as volunteering, are not encouraged by the business school. --Finance

Overall, I'm extremely happy with my MBA, as I was looking for a smaller school that provided personal attention to students. I was making a drastic career change -- from International agricultural development to [information technology] -- and the MBA was the perfect solution. Soon after I joined the program I saw doors beginning to open. --Information Technology

My MBA experience was rough. Unfortunately, graduates of Kogod's Class of 2000 were part of an "experiment" with modular [courses in the] curriculum. For instance, we were to supposed to learn financial accounting in seven weeks, as opposed to a full semester. The program has since been revamped to include a full semester of financial accounting. The career center had several different advisers each semester, making it ineffective and slow to let students know about upcoming events, speakers, etc. It was the least enjoyable period of my life, the biggest sacrifice, both personally and financially. Having said that, I am proud to have finished, and I will reevaluate my educational worth upon finding my first job! --Marketing

The reason I attended Kogod School of Business at American University was primarily for its Management of Global Information Technology program. In addition, American has a tremendous amount of international students, which is beneficial in today's global economy. I learned a tremendous amount of valuable information from my widely diverse teams and group projects! --Information Technology

The greatest aspect of the Kogod School of Business MBA program is its emphasis on student leadership. One is able to achieve a greater sense of community in a program of this size, and the competitive pressures felt in many of the larger schools do not play as much of a role at Kogod. The high quality and genuine characters of the other students is impressive, and I look forward to calling upon the network of business professionals that I established and will continue to make through my association with the Kogod School of Business. --Information Technology

American University is really on the cutting edge of technology and has each year added significantly to the number and type of courses available in technology, e-business, and Internet marketing. While at American, I was able to interact with many of the top executives from local dot-com companies through my professors' connections. --Marketing

American University went to great extremes to accommodate its students. The University responded quickly to the request of students in regard to teaching current topics. In addition to this, the school brought in a great deal of leaders in the community. --Information Technology

I came into the program because of convenience -- I applied in late June, and Kogod was the only school that would accept applications. In the two years I was in the program, we had three "directors," and there were periods where no one staffed the career-placement office. --Entrepreneurship

At Kogod I received an excellent education. In addition, the school's location allows students to capitalize [on management issues] by interacting with different companies in the area. The school's faculty is approachable. --Marketing

I could not be happier with my MBA experience. Deciding on what school to attend was a tough choice -- I was accepted by five schools, one of which is ranked in the top ten, and had to weigh the different aspects of the business-school environment, such as faculty, quality of life, teamwork, international dimensions, etc. American was student-focused, and I have established relationships with the faculty that I will maintain for a long time. My MBA has given me the chance to work on an internship with a startup and to make a career switch. --Information Technology

I am grateful for studying at Kogod. What I learned exceeded my expectations. I already know what I did wrong in the past as a financial analyst, and I learned new things about finance. --Finance
