Harvard Business School changed my life. It has impacted my career dramatically, since it transformed my perception of the world and business, it raised my standards of excellence to the top in all aspects, it gave me the tools to succeed in almost any professional endeavor, it gave me friends that are going to last a lifetime. --Investment Banking
The people, course program, alumni contacts, and overall experience all significantly exceeded my expectations. I originally was skeptical when I applied to Harvard and almost did not even apply. However, after meeting more and more of the then-current students, and especially after meeting my potential classmates on the admit day, they all seemed like fun, down-to-earth people -- completely unlike the stereotype of the school -- and I did not finish my applications to any more schools than the two to which I had applied. Eighteen months of classes fully reinforced those positive thoughts. And, after working for only one month since graduation, the alumni network and assistance is downright astounding. --Entrepreneurship
Please note that the low rating for responsiveness to student concerns is indicative of the level of responsiveness of the administration, NOT the faculty. The faculty is actually quite good about responding to student concerns. --Consulting
Harvard Business School may not be the best school for those who make acquisition of 'hard skills,' such as number-crunching, as their primary goal, but it is THE BEST school for those who want to acquire 'soft skills' such as leadership, and also for those aspiring for 'new opportunities,' which the school trails none in providing to its students. I found it very interesting during the recruiting process that while students from other prominent schools, such as Wharton, Chicago, and Kellogg may be equally talented as our cohorts, many of them seemed to carry an 'inferiority complex' toward Harvard (and maybe Stanford) students, indicated by their comments such as 'HBS can't crunch numbers' when we did not reveal our identity. I am sad that the administration have decided to abandon the January program, it had much more cohesiveness than the September one. --Finance
The most amazing part of these last two years has been (by my own choice) my complete immersion into the way that technology effects business. Before business school, technology had always been an interest. Business school provided the kindling for the fire to turn to passion. Through a series of intense field studies, business plans, coursework, speaker series, and lunch conversations around high tech, business school has opened the gates of a truly fantastic world. --Information Technology
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at HBS and met friends and mentors I will have and cherish for life. HBS reputation of having a culture of cut throats could not be farther from the truth. I urge everyone who is interested in getting a great business education to visit HBS and meet the people. --Consulting
HBS was the best decision I've made in my life. Before going there, someone said my experience would be good, but it wouldn't change my life... They were wrong. As a minority woman, I found that you really had to work hard in an environment like that to make it work. I put in the effort (going out, meeting people, participating in events) and I am much richer (socially, spiritually and professionally) for it. HBS Rocks!!! --Entrepreneurship
Harvard is an exceptional place to receive an education. Although I have many friends who have graduated from the program, I did not have the proper understanding how exceptional the people associated with this program truly are. The faculty and student experience-base is extraordinarily diverse and rich. Consequently, the degree of innovation and entrepreneurship present at the school is astounding and we as students have access to both financial and people resources that are unlikely to be found anywhere in the world. --Marketing
HBS is an amazing place. At first I was scared because I thought that the students around me would be brilliant snobs. In the first weeks of the program, I was pleased to find that the other students were brilliant, funny, and most importantly nice people. I learned a lot from from my classmates. Even more surprising was the accessibility of the professors. Professors have read about you (your classcard/resume) before you even enter the classroom. They are eager to speak with you about their course or about life. Some of my professors became my greatest friends at HBS, and I envision that these friendships will last a lifetime. --Consulting
HBS is an incredible school with the top program in the world. It's a shame the administration has a tin ear to student concerns and opinions. As long as we don't 'rock the boat' and quietly pass through Oz (HBS), there are no worries. The administration is the opposite of accessible and most decisions the opposite of transparent. Communication between the administration and the students is marked by edict and not interaction. Such a shame. I love HBS because of the students and the faculty. The administration leaves a tremendous amount to be desired. --Anonymous
There is absolutely no substitute for a Harvard MBA. While the school may be rooted in tradition so steeply that it sometimes adapts to change slowly, the program is so sound and powerful that any prospective student should be willing to tolerate the real and perceived weaknesses. --Entrepreneurship
It is hard to rate HBS compared to other schools when all I experienced was HBS? It was a good education, but I imagine many other schools would give you an equivalent education. The difference may be the classmates, and I am not just talking about the network. I was pretty much an average Joe. However, I was continually impressed by what many of my classmates had done in the prior lives and what they were planning to do after school. They helped me articulate a vision of where I was going to go that was completely different than what I thought before coming to HBS. Perhaps this is all it means to be at an HBS or a Stanford? You are surrounded by people that encourage you to strive for excellence (not just material success). --Marketing
