More Reader-Suggested Stories

Posted by: John A. Byrne on July 24

Split.jpg Last month marked the first time two BusinessWeek reporters picked up inspiration from one reader. That was when Marcia McLean inspired small-biz writer Stacy Perman to look at the growing number of senior entrepreneurs. Last week, we had another first when reporter Greg Spielberg combined the suggestions of two like-minded readers curious about the post-foreclosure fallout. Pres Winslow, a career counselor from Winslow, Ariz., and second-year MBA student Adam Dawson inspired the story “After the Foreclosure: Downsizing and Doubling Up,” which looks at the difficult decisions residents must face.

On the lighter side of life, Debate Room Editor Rebecca Reisner penned a story called “Reality TV Reruns: Don’t Vote Them Off.” Inspired by young BusinessWeek reader Kyle Connor, Reisner uncovers – not surprisingly, perhaps – that it’s difficult to profit off shows like Survivor after the winners have already been declared. Find out why cooking competitions like Iron Chef have more of a shelf life and how TV producers are relying on video snacks to give viewers their fill.

Keep those ideas coming.

Hi John,
Now that BW is potentially for sale, it would be cool to have the entire magazine make itself into a glass house, with journalists and staff sharing what they're feeling as private equity players are tramping through the place for financial presentations and looking you in the mouth. A weekly account of this evolving story would make businessweek.com truly come alive. Business journalists have long had a detached, "I'm watching you squirm" attitude toward companies undergoing restructuring. I'd love to see you write about your personal experience of restructuring from a human, personal vantage point. I , for one, would find this gutsy and would like you a whole lot better for it.

To whom it may concern. I would like to know why you do not talk to middle class people about Obamas issues on the economy, health issues, and rising taxes. We understand the rich get richer and the poor get government help. What about all of us middle class people that all the issues are going to hit hard. Talk to people that are making ends meet, losing their jobs and barely staying afloat. The issues he has purposed is going to be our taxes paying everything . We are going to sink further and further down the drain. No one cares that we pay for the outcome. The economy depends on us middle class. It seems to us we are the ones getting targeted. Small business owners can not afford to keep going this way. Soon we will be bankrupt. Who then is going to take care of the rich and poor. WHY NOT PRINT THIS IN YOUR WEEKLY ISSUES.
