As part of our effort to deeply engage our readers, a good many of us at BusinessWeek have been having great success and fun with Twitter, the hot micro-blogging site that allows users to blog in 140 characters or less. Two months ago, in a post entitled Twittering Your Way Into Our Newsroom, I invited readers to follow me and partake in an experiment to bring the outside in and the inside out. Some 2,640 people are now following me. Thousands of others are following the more than 30 journalists at BusinessWeek who are now on Twitter.
So if you are on Twitter, I invite you into our newsroom via my Tweets. And if you’re not yet on Twitter, where you can find me here, I urge you to join. It’s simple.

& BW’s Business Exchange: @bwbx
We’ll update this list as more of our colleagues join us, so check back.
Would make it easier to check out the 32 feeds if they were links. Now must cut and paste....
Hi John, This is an extremely helpful list of people to follow. I wait to see requests on HARO in order to send relevant info when needed. The assumption is reporters do not want to be over loaded with stories that do not pertain to what they are following that week. It would be interesting to get a heads up on the stories the reporters are searching for. Thanks again, Alfredo Jr
Hi Bruce: you'll see this list is now linked to Twitter, BW bios and Business Exchange pages, so you can get a better sense of who's who. thanks, Shirley
Wonderful resource - thanks for posting. Some of your journalists are already listed on this wiki, but many are not - not sure who/how it can be updated (it tells me I don't have permission to make updates, for instance), but perhaps one of the BW journalists already listed on the wiki knows:
https://twitteringjournalists.pbwiki.com/Media%20People%20Using%20Twitter
This is a great resource. Thanks for posting them all in one source. I'm relatively new to Twitter, but find that reporters seem to be receptive to pitches via Tweets. Is that true for BW Twitterers?
John and BusinessWeek edit: I am continually impressed by you. This post further demonstrates that you "get it." BW is certainly one of my favorite publications - not just because I am in PR and clients love BW, but mainly due to consistantly poignant editorial. Again, a post like this hones this point in even further. THANKS!
Peter Coy is being coy with his updates. So sad. :~)
We appreciate the feedback! Ruth, I'll have that wiki updated so all our folks are noted -- thank you for pointing that out. And Megan, I'd suggest instead of 'pitching' the BW reporters and editors you find on Twitter in the traditional PR sense (which they already get plenty of by email & phone), you might want to follow their tweets, get to know their interests and interact in a meaningful way. Inquire about what they're covering and/or just keeping an eye on, read their stories and BW blogs on this site, and take your cue from them. If they tweet for information, inquire about trends or otherwise indicate they're open to suggestions - respond in kind. And if in doubt, reach out and ask! So no blanket answer for all our folks, but glad to hear you're not only watching but interested in a meaningful exchange of ideas with us. How would you suggest BW's journalists on Twitter participate, contribute, collaborate and build a community to engage with our various audiences: readers, partners, PR folks, companies on Twitter, etc? And then incorporate all of that into what we do for BW? Thanks, Shirley
ps to Claire: I'll suggest to Peter that he open his Twitter account to all, but really, it's his call: nobody here is mandated to be on Twitter, and it's really up to each person to decide how he or she would like to participate. Don't take it personally if he continues to approve who he lets into his Twitter network - though I'll do my best to convince him otherwise. :)
Thanks to all for your replies on our Twittering gang. Most of them tell me they were showered in a Twitterstorm after I published this blog post and they loved it! I'm sure more of our editors and writers we'll join the club and we'll keep this updated as that happens.
Quick follow-up: Steve Baker's blog post on this is also worth reading (and the comments)

Hi John,
I've followed you (and some of your colleagues) for a while now. I know it's reciprocal, as we've shared tweets.
Good stuff. I'm trading similar tweets with some folks at CNN, and am waiting for them to compile a similar list. I'll share this post with them. Thanks!
- Ari Herzog of http://twitter.com/ariherzog
John, impressive Twitter roster you've assembled, and in short order.
We've just embarked on a similar social media effort at the Los Angeles Times, with Twitter as one of the early focuses.
See you in the tweetophere, @latimes + @LATimesNystrom (thanks Ari for the suggestions).
Folks can find a full directory of our active streams at http://latimes.com/twitter + details of my new role at http://latimes.com/sm
- Andrew Nystrom, LA Times social media facilitator
Hi John,
My Global expansion protégés (about 50) have all been encouraged to participate in your tweet-venture. As you may have already heard, we have a new visually stunning API that will feature the results.
Thanks for spotlighting the phenomenon.
- D. S. Hargis, EXCEL-WEST CEO
Thanks to all for your kind and generous words. And Andrew at the L.A. Times, best of luck in your new role. Sounds like a fantastic way to go by making Twitter an early focus.
I love twitter www.twitter.com/jenscloset
It is so wonderful to see journalist, marketing people and PR people finding common arenas for communication. Thank you Twitter and all Social Media arenas, networking has reached a new level of meaning.
We've just added @karynmccormack & @KenjiHall_BW to our list, making more than 40 BusinessWeek hands now on Twitter. I should point out that a few BWers are on Twitter but dipping their toes, so not highlighted here. Let us know how we're doing and what more we could be doing on Twitter -- and other SM platforms, for that matter! thanks, Shirley
Please welcome BusinessWeek triple threat (softball, editing & writing) Zoe Galland to our list. Follow her on Twitter (@zoegalland) to read breaking news & stories she has worked on as they hit our home page!
BusinessWeek's senior tech writer Olga Kharif & Innovation/Design chief Michael Arndt bring this list to 60 BW Edit Twitterati. I haven't noted BW's tech & business/marketing folks on Twitter - if anyone's interested (and, of course, they're amenable), happy to add to this list.
Just added: BW's chief economist Mike Mandel (@michaelmandel) & Atlanta bureau chief Dean Foust (@deanfoust)
Ever feel journalists are missing the story? "What’s Your Story Idea?" gives you the chance to have a direct impact on BusinessWeek.com’s coverage. Editor-in-Chief John A. Byrne, with an assist from community editor Shirley Brady, will review your pitches and assign at least one per week to a BusinessWeek journalist. When it goes live, you'll get the credit. To submit your story idea, simply post a comment to this blog entry – No PR pitches, please!
