John Byrne is out of pocket this week (hi John!) so I thought I’d take this opportunity to test the new widget for Business Exchange — and here it is:
Any registered Business Exchange user can grab this widget and embed on a blog, MySpace page and other platforms. You just need to have your Business Exchange user ID, which you will see in the last section of the URL for any BX profile. My profile is http://bx.businessweek.com/profile/shirley-brady/sbrady224/ so my BX user ID is sbrady224, which was the only information I needed to embed the widget on this blog post.
Click on the widget above to see the topics I’ve been active in (naturally, a lot of BX’s financial topics given Wall Street’s wobbles of late) and my recent activity. Besides saving a lot of articles and blog posts to read when I find a spare moment, you’ll see I’ve been “saving” (in the non-religious sense) a lot of people to my profile page.
If you’re a registered BX user and would like to be part of my network, drop me a line. If you have any feedback or suggestions, send me your thoughts so I can share with the BX team. I’d also love to take a peek when you add the widget or blog about your experiences on BX.
If you’d like to read other bloggers’ and journalists’ reactions to Business Exchange, we’ve set up a Business Exchange topic as a forum for just that. This discussion will become more interactive and lively as the number of Business Exchange users grows and we introduce new features. Our goal is to be transparent. BX is far from perfect and we’re still working out the kinks, but the good news is it’s evolving and adding new features all the time in response to everyone’s suggestions.
At the moment, BusinessWeek folks dominate the “Most Active Users” list on the BX homepage. While we will continue to be part of the mix of active participants in Business Exchange, BX isn’t only a resource for BusinessWeek’s staffers to stay on top of their games. Perhaps more importantly, this is a resource for our readers to boost their business savvy, too.
Let’s say you’re curious about the new Google Android G1 phone from T-Mobile. After you’ve read BusinessWeek.com’s stories on today’s announcement by Olga Kharif and Steve Wildstrom and checked out BW’s tech blog for more, you can jump into to BX for a deeper dive on Google Android and smartphones in general to find out more about Google’s strategy.
All of which is to say: we look forward to seeing non-BWers in the top 10, which you can only do if you register. It’s free and quick to sign up — here’s the link — and you can pull in your LinkedIn profile if you want to make it really easy. Set up some topics that interest you, jump into the mix and join the conversation. We hope you enjoy what you discover and add your own content by linking to articles and blog posts, posting comments and sending us feedback to let us know how we can make Business Exchange more useful to you.
Ever feel journalists are missing the story? "What’s Your Story Idea?" gives you the chance to have a direct impact on BusinessWeek.com’s coverage. Editor-in-Chief John A. Byrne, with an assist from community editor Shirley Brady, will review your pitches and assign at least one per week to a BusinessWeek journalist. When it goes live, you'll get the credit. To submit your story idea, simply post a comment to this blog entry – No PR pitches, please!
