Philip A. Pizzo

Dr. Philip A. Pizzo has served as dean of the Stanford School of Medicine since April, 2001. Before joining Stanford, he was the physician-in-chief of Children's Hospital in Boston and chair of the pediatrics department at Harvard Medical School from 1996 to 2001. Between 1973 and 1996 Pizzo was head of the National Cancer Institute's infectious disease section, chief of the NCI's pediatric branch, and acting scientific director for NCI's Division of Clinical Sciences. He and his research team pioneered the development of new treatments for children with HIV infection as well as numerous other innovations in cancer and infectious diseases more broadly. He has written 500 scientific articles and 14 books.
