John Pippin

John J. Pippin M.D. is senior medical and research adviser for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a charitable organization of physicians, scientists, educators, and laypersons that promotes preventive medicine (especially good nutrition), conducts clinical research, and addresses controversies in modern medicine. Pippin leads PCRM's campaigns to replace the use of animals in medical research and education and drug research and testing. In 2005, Pippin testified before the FDA and the Institute of Medicine on how misleading animal experimental results contributed to the approval of Vioxx and other dangerous drugs. He participated in an animal-research debate in Britain's House of Commons in November, 2005. Pippin is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases, and nuclear cardiology. He was awarded a five-year Clinician Scientist Award from the American Heart Assn., and carried out studies in nuclear cardiology at the Medical College of Virginia that contributed to advances in cardiac imaging. He has been on several medical school faculties, including Harvard Medical School and the Medical College of Virginia, where he was chosen Cardiology Professor of the Year three times. He was the founding director of cardiovascular medicine and medical imaging at Cooper Clinic in Dallas before joining PCRM. He lives in Dallas with his family of dogs.
