Geri L. Smith is BusinessWeek's Mexico City bureau manager, a position she assumed in September, 1992. She is responsible for covering Latin America. Before joining BusinessWeek in 1992, Smith reported from Brazil, Argentina, and Chile for United Press International and covered the region as a freelance journalist for a variety of U.S. publications. She was a contributing editor to the Americas magazine, published by the Organization of American States. Smith holds a bachelor's in journalism from Northwestern University and a master's in international relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. She received the Columbia University Maria Moors Cabot Prize for her coverage of Latin America.
