Can Ghosn See Ford In His Future?

The profile of Carlos Ghosn in the May 22 issue of Forbes had an interesting tidbit. [No, I don’t mind plugging the competition, especially when it’s a good piece of work]. Asked by reporter Joann Muller (formerly of BusinessWeek), “Do you see the day where you could expand the Renault-Nissan alliance to include a North American company?” Ghosn responded, “Why not? There was more blather to the answer, but that’s the key part of the response.
I don’t see Ghosn being interested in tying up with General Motors, nor do I see GM wanting to turn over control to Ghosn. But Ford? We know Bill Ford already tried to hire Ghosn.
If Ford stock remains tanked under $10 for a long time, and Bill Ford gets increasingly antsy to give up the CEO job and step back as non-exec chairman (what time is it?)a tie-up with Renault-Nissan after Ford goes through the next UAW negotiations presents an interesting and compelling scenario. It would all be a mess to rationalize, but it would be a good story to cover.
