Catherine is a senior writer for BusinessWeek, covering medicine and science, a position she has held since 1997. She follows a broad range of scientific and health care subjects, including the search for effective cancer treatments, research into the brain, new medicines for pain, emerging biotechnology treatments and challenges facing the U.S. health care system. She joined BusinessWeek in 1992, covering personal computers, IBM and telecommunications. She writes regularly for the BusinessWeek web site and contributes to the BW blog Working Parents.
Prior to joining BusinessWeek, Catherine spent three years as the European Science Correspondent for Reuters News Service, based in London. She also worked for Reuters as the Boston correspondent, specializing in science and medicine, and as a general assignment reporter in New York.
Catherine won the 2004 Business Journalist of the Year award from London's World Leadership Forum and in 2003 was the first recipient of the ACE Reporter Award from the European School of Oncology for a five-year body of work on cancer. She has also won awards from the Overseas Press Club, the New York Newswomen of New York and the Computer Press Association.
She holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Boston University.
