Nacho Figueras, 37, is a professional polo player and spokesman for Ralph Lauren in Buenos Aires.
What do you do? I do many things. I am a professional polo player for the Black Watch polo team in Palm Beach, a connoisseur for St. Regis Hotels, and an ambassador for Veuve Clicquot Champagne.
Plus a Ralph Lauren gig—how’d you get that? I’ve been the face of the Black Label line for 14 years, and now their fragrances. I met Ralph in the Hamptons in 1999, and he thought it would be a good idea to have a polo player in the ads.
You’re in jeans and a T-shirt. Any high-tech athletic wear? I’m just wearing what I need to go to work. The shirt is made of a sporty Dri-Fit material.
How do you keep your hair out of your eyes while playing? I wear a helmet, so there’s not too much to worry about.
Tell me about polo boots. They’re custom-made from a place in Argentina. They have triple leather on the outside to protect me from bumps. They cost $1,100.
What’s your day? If I’m in Palm Beach, the Hamptons, or Argentina, I wake up, go to the barn, and ride. And if there’s a game that day, play. I’m on the horse three to four hours a day.
Don’t white jeans get stained? You have to play polo in white pants. It’s tradition, like wearing white at Wimbledon.
Do you get all your Ralph Lauren clothes free? You could say so.
