Airline Fees Are Fueling Carriers' Profits


High fares used to be a flyer’s only worry. But in 2013, airlines also took in $23.7 billion in a la carte fees for food, baggage, seat preference, and other services, estimates consultant IdeaWorks. That’s about double airline profit forecasts.
