And the Most Innovative Nation Is …


For those keeping score, the U.S. is back among the top 5 most innovative countries—the first time since 2009, when it was No. 1. The Global Innovation Index 2013 is out today, and as you can see below, the U.S. just makes the upper tier.

One takeaway from this year’s ranking: Government policymakers hoping to support innovation are leveraging local advantages to build their own innovation ecosystems instead of trying to import successful models from elsewhere, such as Silicon Valley.
