These Boston-Area Business Schools Have Canceled Classes Today

The area around North Station was almost totally devoid of people at around 9:40 a.m. Scenes from around Boston as the 'Lockdown in Place' continues as the manhunt for the second suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings is underway.

The following colleges and universities with business programs have announced that they are closed today, April 19, because of the police manhunt for a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing. The links are to additional information on the school websites.

Bentley University

Waltham Public Safety Officials have put the city on “lockdown,” the school reports. The campus will be closed until authorities advise otherwise. University police can be reached at 781-891-3131. Updates are being posted on Twitter.

Boston College

Boston University

In addition to canceling classes, Boston University has closed Mugar Library, School of Management Pardee Library, School of Education Library, Science and Engineering Library, and Stone Science Library until further notice.  Faculty and staff should not report to work. Brandeis University

Off-campus students are advised not to travel to campus, but on-campus students have been told they’re free to go to dining halls and other campus facilities.  Campus police can be reached at 781-736-3333. Updates are being posted on Twitter.

Harvard University

With public transportation across greater Boston suspended, Harvard is asking faculty, staff, and students to remain at home.  Personnel with duties that include health, safety, or other critical operations should check in with supervisors to make sure those functions can continue. Massachusetts Institute of Technology

The fatal overnight shooting of a campus police officer closed the MIT campus on Friday, April 19.  The officer, identified as Sean Collier, 26, was shot at Main and Vassar streets in Cambridge, the school said.  A weekend event for admitted students at MIT’s Sloan School of Management has been canceled. Northeastern University

Northeastern  increased public safety staffing early Friday and urged anyone on campus, including students in residence halls, to remain indoors with doors locked.  Campus police can be reached at 617-474-2121. Updates are being posted on Twitter.

Simmons College

Students were advised to remain on campus, where they are free to move between buildings.  The main dining hall was open for breakfast at 7 a.m. Parents were encouraged to stay at home, but students who are being picked up by family members should notify their resident director. Suffolk University

Students are encouraged to contact family to let them know they’re safe. No guests are allowed in residence halls, but guests currently signed in should stay. Food will be available at 10 West Street starting at 10:30 a.m. All other dining services are on a normal schedule.  Police can be contacted at 617-573-8113 or 8333. Wentworth Institute of Technology

Wentworth is closed and will remain locked until 1 p.m. Additional public safety personnel are on hand to secure the campus. Finals are being rescheduled. Updates are being posted on Twitter.
