Which business school has the best students?

If you didn’t know any better, you could be excused for mistaking the Bloomberg Businessweek Business School Forums for a horse race. Given the slightest provocation, forum participants will happily cheer their own schools to victory or ridicule opposing MBA programs. Discussion threads sport such names as “Columbia vs. NYU Stern” and quickly fill up with messages about why each is spectacular—or not, depending on who is writing the message.

Recently, one of the forum users, torque, posed the question of B-school supremacy in a creative way. Instead of asking about which program is best, torque asked which has the highest caliber students and whether students who are not from the most competitive of schools make good classmates. Torque was referring to the so-called M7 programs, which include such elite institutions as Harvard Business School, the Wharton School, and the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Of course, everyone who chimed in chose his or her own school as having the best students. You can do the same—or not. To join the conversation, visit the “Caliber of students at non-M7?” discussion thread.

Editor’s Note: This blog post is part of a series about discussions taking place on the Bloomberg Businessweek Business School Forums, where prospective MBA program applicants, current students, and recent alumni trade admissions tips, job-hunting advice, and the occasional barbed comment. We invite you to join these discussions or start one of your own.
