MAKING MICROSOFT THE SCAPEGOAT Regarding "The FTC vs. Microsoft" (Top of the News, Dec. 28), Lotus Development Corp. is deluding itself if it thinks its spread-sheet product is losing market share primarily because of competition from Microsoft Corp. Lotus is deservedly losing share because it has done a miserable job of enhancing Lotus 1-2-3. Lotus' failure to keep its core product up to date stems from management arrogance, the same arrogance that tripped up General Motors, IBM, and other onetime market leaders that never learned that a company can never rest on its laurels. I urge the FTC to ignore any whining Lotus does about Microsoft. Bert Ely Alexandria, Va. |
