Perry supplemented wealth with profitable deals

Texas Gov. Rick Perry is a man of modest means when it comes to presidential candidates. But he has been able to supplement his government salary with more than $1 million from deals involving political backers.

In 2007, Perry made $800,000 by selling land he had gotten from a Republican friend in the Legislature. Earlier, he made a quick profit selling stock in a company owned by a top campaign donor. Perry's office says the deals were legal and fully disclosed.

In all, Perry and his wife have earned about $2.4 million from real estate, stock trades, oil and gas leases and two trust funds.
