A Rhode Island lawmaker is asking the state to investigate National Grid's response to Tropical Storm Irene.
Sen. John Tassoni wants the Public Utilities Commission to determine whether the utility was prepared for the storm that knocked out power to more than 333,000 customers statewide.
As of Thursday afternoon, more than 52,000 customers were still without power.
Tassoni, a Democrat from Smithfield, says in a statement that he has been inundated with complaints about the utility's performance. He says he wants to know whether the utility had enough manpower to respond to the storm.
Tassoni says he's not accusing National Grid of "ineptness" or suggesting they have not done enough to fix outages. He says the state should find out whether the utility will be better prepared for upcoming storms.
