BATON ROUGE, La.
H&E Equipment Services Inc. reported a second-quarter profit Thursday as demand increased for the heavy equipment the company rents and sells.
For the April-through-June quarter, Baton Rouge-based H&E earned $2.7 million, or 8 cents per share. For the 2010 second quarter, the company lost $7 million, or 20 cents per share. Revenue rose to $184.3 million from $131 million.
H&E chief executive John Engquist said the profit was encouraging despite a largely dormant commercial construction sector. He said that due to the timing of equipment deliveries, the second quarter could be the company's strongest sales period of 2010.
In Thursday trading, H&E shares were up 44 cents, or 4 percent, at $11.25. The shares have traded in a 52-week range of $6.60 to $20.40.
