GM exec says talks with UAW already under way

The head of General Motors in North America says this year's contract talks with the United Auto Workers will different from the contentious bargaining of the past.

North American President Mark Reuss says both sides have been talking for the past 18 months. Formal talks will begin July 27.

Reuss wouldn't say much about what GM is seeking. But he says many things the company wants will also benefit the union.

As an example, he says GM wants to make its factories more flexible so they can quickly change the cars and trucks they make.

Reuss spoke after the dedication of the GM auditorium at a Detroit design school. The UAW contract with Detroit automakers expires in September.
