Central Fla. commuter rail project moves forward

Central Florida's commuter rail project just took another step forward.

The U.S. Department of Transportation on Monday signaled it is ready to enter into a multi-year funding agreement with the state of Florida to build the $1.2 billion project. It would link downtown Orlando with Osceola, Seminole and Volusia counties.

Congress now has 60 days to review the project.

If it is approved by Congress, Gov. Rick Scott will make the final decision on whether to move forward with SunRail.

Scott froze $235 million in SunRail contracts in January, saying he wanted to conduct a financial review of the project. The project was supposed to break ground this spring but Scott won't make a decision until summer.
