A Florida millionaire accused of walking out on a $1.2 million gambling debt is asking a Connecticut court to throw out a ruling that would allow Mohegan Sun to seize his assets.
Plum TV chief executive Jerome Powers of Miami Beach, Fla., filed an appeal with the state Appellate Court early this week.
Powers has been fighting Mohegan Sun's attempts to recoup the gambling debt in civil court since it sued him in November 2009. He says the credit agreement he signed is invalid under state law and state courts have no jurisdiction because the sovereign Mohegan Tribe runs the casino.
It's not clear when the Appellate Court will take up the appeal.
A lawyer for the casino declined to comment.
