Brazil's GDP grows 7.5 percent in 2010

The government says Brazil's gross domestic product grew 7.5 percent in 2010 after a 0.2 percent slip the year before.

It was the highest growth rate since 1986, when the economy also grew by 7.5 percent.

The IBGE statistics bureau said Thursday that GDP expansion was due mainly to the 10.1 percent rise in industrial output.

The IBGE says GDP in the last quarter of 2010 was 0.7 higher than in the third quarter and 5 percent higher when compared to the same period one year earlier.
