Independent film studio Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. and the French production company StudioCanal will distribute Miramax movies on DVD and in other formats, the three companies said Friday.
Miramax's catalog includes "The English Patient," "Shakespeare in Love" and "Good Will Hunting." Lions Gate and StudioCanal will distribute more than 550 of Miramax's 700 movies.
Lions Gate and StudioCanal will distribute these titles on DVD, as well as Blu-ray and through on-demand video services, with Lions Gate handling U.S. distribution and StudioCanal distributing the films in Europe.
The first movie to be distributed under the deal is the romantic comedy "The Switch" starring Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman. It will be sold in the U.S. on Blu-ray, DVD and video on demand and available as a digital download on March 15.
Though Lions Gate and StudioCanal have partnered before, this is both companies' first deal with Miramax.
The Miramax library was sold by Walt Disney Co. last year to a group of investors led by Colony Capital for $663 million.
Shares of Lions Gate fell 4 cents to $6.20 in Friday morning trading.
