EPIC MICKEY: The Walt Disney Co. reported that its quarterly earnings through December rose 54 percent to $1.3 billion, or 68 cents per share, beating the 56 cents per share predicted by analysts polled by FactSet.
ACROSS THE BOARD: Improvements across the board helped. Ad revenue grew at ESPN and ABC, cost reductions boosted profits at the movie studio, and domestic park attendance rose 2 percent. Losses at the interactive unit grew, but its revenue jumped 58 percent.
OUTLOOK: Ad revenue is seen rising in the second quarter through March. But studio results may look smallish against the results of "Alice in Wonderland" released last March.
