US Sen. Brown targets health care tax provisions

U.S. Sen. Scott Brown is calling for immediate elimination of two sections of the national health care reform law, even as he continues to support repeal of the entire law.

In a speech on Monday to the North Suburban Chamber of Commerce in Woburn, Brown said he supported legislation that would repeal a 2.3 percent excise tax on medical device manufacturers that would take effect in 2013.

The Massachusetts Republican also said he backed repeal of a new 1099 tax reporting provision for businesses that would take effect next year.

In his address, Brown also said he planned to file several other bills to help create jobs in Massachusetts, including one that would streamline the regulatory process for drug manufacturers and another that would provide tax credits to businesses that hire veterans.
