Several Nebraska universities will share a new $20 million grant to develop new research focused on algae and on nanotechnology.
The National Science Foundation recently announced the five-year grant.
One group of researchers will try to develop a better understanding of algae. That research might help efforts to use algae as a fuel source.
Another group of researchers will try to develop tiny molecules with new sensing capabilities that might help find disease or explosives.
The research will include the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Creighton University, Doane College, the University of Nebraska at Kearney, the University of Nebraska Medical Center and other schools.
