$75M more sought from BP for Louisiana tourism aid

Louisiana Lt. Gov. Scott Angelle has asked BP PLC for another $75 million to help the state's tourism industry recover from the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

BP already has given Louisiana $15 million to help mitigate the spill's impact on tourism.

In a letter to Larry Thomas, BP's general manager of governmental and public affairs, Angelle says recent findings of a "perception study" show that Louisiana is continuing to be "constrained by negative national perception" about the state's seafood to prospective tourists following the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill.

Angelle says the spill has damaged the state's seafood brand and simultaneously, its tourism brand, because both are "inextricably linked."

He says the state needs additional resources to fight the negative perceptions.
