Sixty-four employees of the main contractor at Arnold Air Force Base have received layoff notices.
Aerospace Testing Alliance said in an e-mail statement Friday that the staff reduction is due to declining Department of Defense budgets and fewer major defense projects.
The Sept. 24 reduction will leave the base operating contractor with more than 2,100 employees.
ATA General Manager David Elrod said the company has engaged professional support to assist displaced employees.
Elrod told employees several months ago that layoffs might be required for the fiscal year that starts Oct. 1.
ATA has been the base operating contractor since 2003.
