BERLIN
The euro is up against the dollar ahead of expected light trading as U.S. markets were closed for a national holiday.
The 16-nation euro rose to $1.2900 in early Monday trading, up from $1.2882 late Friday in New York.
Positive news on job growth in the United States released on Friday helped bolster the dollar, despite a marginal increase in the overall jobless rate to 9.6 percent.
In other currencies, the British pound held largely steady at $1.5447 and the dollar slid against the Japanese currency to 84.15 yen, from 84.43 yen last week.
