WASHINGTON
International Paper Co. spent $870,000 to lobby the federal government in the second quarter on funding for the postal service, forest sustainability and other issues, according to a disclosure report filed with Congress.
The company's second-quarter lobbying bill was nearly 18 percent higher than the $738,390 it reported spending in the same quarter a year ago and represents a 26 percent increase from the $690,000 it reported spending on lobbying in the first quarter of this year.
The paper company also disclosed lobbying on climate-change legislation, economic development, transportation, tax credits for renewable energy, taxes and pensions.
One bill it lobbied on would let companies get a tax credit up to $25 million per year to produce energy from biomass fuels for pulp- or paper-making plants in the United States.
Besides Congress, the company lobbied the Treasury Department.
International Paper filed its disclosure July 16.
